Dear friends,

Happy New Year! May 2021 bring health for you and your loved ones, time to enjoy our achievements and energy to continue the fight for a better, fairer and greener future!

EGP is pleased to invite you to our virtual New Year Reception, which will take place on social media on Wednesday, 27 January from 18:00 to 19:00 CET.

We regret we cannot invite you to our new office, on Rue du Taciturne 34, 1000, Brussels, where we have moved right at the beginning of the pandemic. But we will surely find another moment to gather and catch-up in-person, hopefully in the near future, as soon as the circumstances will allow it.

Programme

This New Year Reception will be dedicated to culture. The cultural sector has been hardly hit by the COVID19 pandemic and we the Greens have solutions on how to support it. As a part of the programme, Polish artists will give you “the gift of culture” with their performances and bring us together virtually for a special and hopeful moment.

You will have the opportunity to hear the Polish musician Jacek BUDYN Szymkiewicz, who will prepare a special performance of music and poetry. You will also see an artistic film, at the intersection of dance, photography, music and poetry, having as an inspiration Japanese prose of the 10th and 11th century.

Artists’ participation is supported by donors who contributed to our Green family fund and whom we want to thank dear for helping cultural workers in these challenging times.

Our co-chairs Evelyne Huytebroeck and Thomas Waitz will introduce the evening and reflect on the difficult year behind us, but also on positive impact the Greens have made in 2020.

We will hear from Ms Bénédicte Linard, Minister of Culture, Media, Day-care and Women’s Rights in Belgium, on the impact of this pandemic on the cultural sector and what are the national mechanisms of support.

MEP Romeo Franz, Vice-chair Committee on Culture and Education, will provide us with the European outlook on the culture sector after COVID19 and highlight the importance of European solidarity and joint action.

The draft agenda can be found here.
